John Terry has affirmed in an Instagram post that he has broken his fifth metatarsal amid Aston Villa’s 2-1 lose to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
The 36-year-old endured the damage after only 20 minutes and was replaced before limping down the passage at Villa Park.
‘Crushed is putting it mildly to how I’m feeling this evening, after my CT examine I have quite recently had the news that I have broken my fifth metatarsal,’ Terry composed.
‘I will do all that I can to get back fit as quickly as time permits.’
Terry had played each moment of his side’s 16 matches in the Championship this season, following his mid-year landing on a free transfer from Chelsea.
The damage is further terrible news for Villa boss Steve Bruce after his side endured their first home defeat of the league this season.
Adam Reach set the guests on their way with the opener goal after just 19 seconds while previous Middlesbrough man Jordan Rhodes made it two preceding the break.
