Serena Williams will be returning to the court at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi following the birth of her daughter.
Williams who has not played since last winning the Australian Open in January, while she was six weeks pregnant, however will come back to court to play French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko next Saturday.
The 36-year-old, who gave birth to Alexis Jr in September, is wanting to make an aggressive return at the Australian Open one month from now.
‘I am pleased to back in court at Abu Dhabi out of the blue since the birth of my girl in September,’ Williams told the competition’s website.
‘The Mubadala World Tennis Championship has since a long time ago marked the start of the men’s global tennis season.
‘I am energized and regarded to be making my return as a feature of the first ladies to take part in this competition.
‘I am looking forward to see my fans in Abu Dhabi at the tenth Edition of the Championship soon.’Men’s world number one Rafael Nadal was also supposed to play in the event but withdrew due to ongoing troubles with his knee.
