Arsenal completes the signing of Greek defender Konstantinos Mavropanos from PAS Giannina for £2.2million.
The 20-year-old had been in talks with the Gunners after making 16 Greek Super League appearances following his breakthrough last season into the first team.
Mavropanos, who was also wanted by Olympiacos, has represented Greece Under-21’s and is recognised as one of his country’s best prospects.
Sportsmail gave an account of Wednesday that Arsenal were set to land Greek wonderkid Mavropanos and his agents were expected in London.
Mavropanos, who is probably going to go out on loan, is one of the players to be recognized by the club’s new scouting team, drove by recently selected head of enlistment Sven Mislintat. A length of agreement for Mavropanos has not been given.
As per the Islington Gazette, Arsene Wenger conceded the defender would be loan out straight away after Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea on Wednesday.
He stated: ‘He isn’t prepared to play for us yet.’
Mavropanos is Arsenal’s first signing of the January transfer window and the Gunners proclamation read: ‘Youthful Greek defender Konstantinos Mavropanos has signed for us.
‘The 20 year-old defender from PAS Giannina, where he has shown up since breaking into the first team last season.
‘We’d get a kick out of the chance to welcome Konstantinos to the club and wish him well for what’s to come.’
