Liverpool swept aside rivals Manchester United 4-1 at Michigan Stadium in a sure sign that their preparation for the new season is on course.
Sadio Mane opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Demetri Mitchell had brought down Mohamed Salah in the area.
The lead lasted only a matter of minuted however, as United hit back through Andreas Pereira, who beat 19-year-old goalkeeper Kamil Grabara with a well struck free-kick.
Jurgen Klopp’s side regained their advantage in the second half when substitutes Xherdan Shaqiri and Daniel Sturridge combined to put the Reds ahead, the former teeing up the latter on the edge of the box.
The Reds were then awarded a second penalty which was converted by Sheyi Ojo, before Shaqiri rounded off the scoring with an exquisite overhead kick.
Shaqiri held up a long ball into the box and laid off for Sturridge to place home a first-time finish that glanced off Pereira’s right-hand post on its way into the net.
And when Herrera clipped Robertson’s heels in the box, Ojo calmly slotted in from 12 yards after successfully persuading Sturridge to allow him to take the penalty.
Liverpool were rampant in the closing stages and Shaqiri launched himself acrobatically at Ben Woodburn’s left-wing cross to complete a memorable Reds debut for the Switzerland star.
