Edinson Cavani has dismissed suggestions he and Neymar have fallen out after their clash during a friendly between Uruguay and Brazil last week.
The pair clashed after Cavani brought Neymar down with a scything challenge in the closing stages of the game at the Emirates Stadium last Friday, which Brazil won 1-0 thanks to a Neymar penalty.
But as they prepare to meet up again, this time on the same team at Paris Saint-Germain, Cavani has moved to quell talk of a feud.
‘I talked to him after the game we played against Brazil, off the pitch there’s no problem, it’s not serious, we play in different teams and we defend our interests,’ Cavani said after Uruguay’s 1-0 defeat by France on Tuesday.
Kylian Mbappe recently explained that Neymar laughed about the clash in the WhatsApp group between the three strikers.
‘Edinson is always up for the game, so there is no need to give him extra motivation for matches,’ the 19-year-old told reporters. ‘He is a great player and having him with us at PSG does us a lot of good.
‘I sent Neymar a video of his clash with Edinson via WhatsApp and he just laughed in response, so that says it all. It was nothing, it was a duel and they were defending their countries.
‘They both gave everything, which you have to do when you go for the ball, and contact is a part of the game – that is all.
‘This will not stop them from hugging and making up at PSG and then scoring goals together once we are back with PSG. There is no problem.’
Both Neymar and Mbappe could be returning to PSG as injury doubts after going off in their respective midweek international friendlies.
Neymar hobbled off after only eight minutes of Brazil’s 1-0 win over Cameroon with an apparent groin issue.
