Leicester City has announced the £30million arrival of Ayoze Perez from Newcastle.
The 25-year-old has agreed a four-year deal at the King Power Stadium. He becomes their second signing of the summer transfer window after the addition of James Justin from Luton.
The Spaniard spent five seasons at St James’ Park and enjoyed his most productive season last term, scoring 12 times. And he has got stuck in straight away, hitting the gym on Thursday as preparations for the new season begin apace.
Perez admits he is relishing the challenge ahead. Speaking to LCFC TV, he said: ‘I’m very happy and very pleased. I’m very proud to be part of the Leicester family and I can’t wait to get started.
‘The club want to keep growing as much as they can and that’s something I like. I spoke with the manager and that was important. ‘That made me feel very comfortable about the decision to come here.’ Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers added: ‘I think Ayoze will be a wonderful addition to the squad. He’s quick, has a good eye for goal and he’s experienced in the Premier League too. ‘I think he’s a player who will excite our supporters, and his style is one that I believe complements the options and quality that we already have here at the football club.’
Perez will link up with his new team-mates ahead of next week’s training camp in France as preparations begin in earnest for the new season.
