Romelu Lukaku net Four on his Inter Milan debut

Romelu Lukaku has netted his first goals for Inter Milan following his £73million move to the Italian side last week.

The Belgian striker scored four in a friendly against Serie D minnows Virtus Bergamo, as he seeks to build up fitness ahead of the new league campaign. The 26-year-old has struggled for game time in pre-season, having not featured for Manchester United at all in the summer ahead of his switch to Italy – and was absent from Inter’s squad which took on Valencia on Saturday.

But on his debut for his new side, Lukaku was found in inspired goal scoring form after hitting the back of the net four times in a typically physical display. After netting 28 Premier League goals for the Old Trafford giants, the Belgian international was handed the number 9 shirt following the completion of his big money move and made an immediate impact.

Inter’s line-up consisted of players who had featured for the least minutes in the penalty shoot-out victory over Valencia the previous evening, along with those who hadn’t travelled and others from the Primavera side.

After the Valencia friendly, boss Antonio Conte was asked for an update on Lukaku.

He said: ‘Obviously, Lukaku also needs to do a lot of work in training, both physically and on tactics. He is an excellent purchase and we are very happy. He wants to work really hard to be ready as soon as possible.’

Inter will open their Serie A campaign against newly-promoted Lecce at the San Siro.
