Maurizio Sarri will not be on the bench for Juventus’ game against Napoli this weekend.
The former Chelsea manager has been battling pneumonia and tests performed on Friday showed that he still requires further rest and medication. And that has led to Juventus’ medical staff deciding against allowing him to take up his place on the bench for the visit of his old team Napoli on Saturday evening.
Sarri will instead be in touch with his assistant Marco Ianni with a headset and have further contact with coach Giovanni Martusciello. Juventus have denied any suggestions that Sarri’s condition has worsened or that it is more severe than reported. But it is thought that the 60-year-old’s habit of smoking has made his recovery slower.
It is expected that Sarri is still around two weeks from being able to return to the bench and take charge of the Turin side.
He is yet to take up a place in the dugout for a competitive Juventus game since being appointed manager this summer.
