Turkey 0-3 Italy: Azzurri kick off in style as Ciro Immobile, Lorenzo Insigne and an own goal from Merih Demiral secure victory in Rome

Roberto Mancini’s men kick off Euro’s campaign in style in the opening match of a European Championship as they lay down a serious marker for the trophy credentials, perhaps.

The damage was done after an own goal from Demiral, as well as strikes from Immobile and Insigne.

The Azzurri were frighteningly good, outclassing Turkey all across the pitch.

Turkey held Italy at bay in the first half but crumbled after Demiral’s own goal early in the second. Immobile and Insigne eventually struck to give Italy a comfortable win.

Roberto Mancini’s side are unbeaten in their last 27 fixtures, a run stretching back to 2018, and will hope to avoid a setback on home soil to kick-start their campaign.

Italy’s rivals will be taking note of this performance. Mancini’s side showed remarkable control and look like they will be a force in this tournament.

Turkey continue their record of losing their opening match at every major tournament they’ve qualified for.

Gunes’ team looked leggy and will need to bounce back quickly if they’re to get out of Group A.

Italy get the Euro 2020 show started then and face Switzerland next, while Turkey will play Wales.

They’re only one game into the competition, of course, but Italy already look like a side with a force to reckon with.
