Turkey held Italy at bay in the first half but crumbled after Demiral’s own goal early in the second. Immobile and Insigne eventually struck to give Italy a comfortable win.
Roberto Mancini’s side are unbeaten in their last 27 fixtures, a run stretching back to 2018, and will hope to avoid a setback on home soil to kick-start their campaign.
Italy’s rivals will be taking note of this performance. Mancini’s side showed remarkable control and look like they will be a force in this tournament.
Turkey continue their record of losing their opening match at every major tournament they’ve qualified for.
Gunes’ team looked leggy and will need to bounce back quickly if they’re to get out of Group A.
Italy get the Euro 2020 show started then and face Switzerland next, while Turkey will play Wales.
