Dani Alves seals return to Brazil on a three-year deal with Sao Paulo

Dani Alves has sealed a return to his homeland Brazil after Sao Paulo confirmed a three-year deal for the veteran right-back on Thursday night.

The full-back was a free agent after leaving Paris Saint-Germain this summer and had attracted interest from Arsenal and Manchester City. He returns to Brazilian club football for the first time since leaving Bahia for Sevilla in 2002.

The club’s president Carlos Augusto de Barros e Silva said, ‘Daniel Alves is the embodiment of what this management envisions for Sao Paulo. ‘One of the leading players in the world and recognized for his immense professionalism, his fierce determination and his endless thirst for titles and victories.

‘He is also a socially engaged citizen and passionate about our country. Sao Paulo, therefore, wins on every possible front.

‘One day I told Daniel that he would come to play at Sao Paulo, the club of his heart. Today I have the immense joy and pride to have kept that promise. ‘

Alves began his career at Bahia before moving to Sevilla in 2002. He gave six years of service to Sevilla before heading north-east to Barcelona in 2008.

The Brazil international made 247 appearances during eight seasons in Catalonia, winning 22 trophies.

Alves won the Serie A title in a solitary season at Juventus before joining PSG and then going on to captain Brazil to Copa America glory this summer.
