Former Liverpool star Martin Skrtel swallow tongue after hard tackle from opponent

Former Liverpool star Martin Skrtel swallow tongue after hard tackle from opponent.
The brave defender was smashed in the face while blocking a cross during his country’s King’s Cup final victory against Thailand on Sunday.

Footage of the scary sequence showed Skrtel immediately hit the ground while running at full speed, before concerned team-mates rushed towards his limp body.

They frantically waved medical staff onto the pitch as one quick-thinking team-mate grabbed his tongue to clear his airways.
There was a long break in play while Slovakian doctors administered treatment to the 33-year-old at the Rajamangala Stadium in Thailand.

He was taken off the pitch for a short while – but returned shortly afterwards to play for another 45 minutes.

Slovakia went on to win the game 3-2 but after footage of the incident made its way online, fans of his former club Liverpool were left in disbelief that he was permitted to play again.

One outraged comment read: “They let him keep playing? Has their medical staff joined the current millennium?

Another said: “Damn, that’s pretty scary, surprised they let him keep playing.

“Fair play to the players and medical staff for reacting so quickly though.”

“How the hell was he allowed to play on? That is some of the most irresponsible stuff I have ever seen,” blasted a third.
