Antoine Griezmann has arrived in Barcelona ahead of his unveiling — and he insists he wants to make the Catalan giants even greater.
The forward completed a massive £108million move from La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid on Friday before jetting over to Barcelona, where he had a tour of the club shop and saw his name on the back of the shirt. As well as performing some keepy-ups, he also insisted that he was delighted to have made the switch.
‘I’m very happy,’ he said. ‘And looking forward to working with the squad and meeting my new team-mates.
‘It’s a new challenge, with new targets. I hope I can do as well as I have been doing for my club and country. ‘La Liga, the Copa del Rey, the Champions League… they’re the club’s goals and my goals, and I hope to win them here.’ Griezmann also said he was excited about featuring alongside Lionel Messi in the future.
He continued: ‘I’m looking forward to seeing what he’s like on a day-to-day basis, in training.
Playing next to him will be an incredible joy. ‘I was keen to come here, and my family was behind me… for me, it’s a big club and I hope to help it to continue being big or make it even bigger.
‘I’m really looking forward to working with my new team-mates and with the boss (Ernesto Valverde), and playing at the Nou Camp and hopefully winning a lot of things.’ Meanwhile, Atletico look set to pursue Barcelona for an additional €80m (£71.7m) after claiming the €120m (£108m) received for Antoine Griezmann is ‘insufficient’ to cover the player’s buyout clause.
