Jose Mourinho suffer first defeat on his return to Old Trafford after Marcus Rashford scores early on in either half to put Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men above Spurs in the table

Manchester United get back to winning ways courtesy of a 2-1 victory over Tottenham this evening at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils become the first team to inflict defeat on Jose Mourinho at Spurs, which will leave a bitter taste in the mouth of the Portuguese against his former club.

Marcus Rashford was the difference between the two sides, scoring a match-winning brace.

His first goal in the sixth minute caught Paulo Gazzniga by surprise, beating the keeper low at his near post. Rashford’s second came as he won a penalty following a mazy run, drawing the foul from Moussa Sissoko.

The 22-year-old held his composure to find the net, which was enough to deliver the three points for his team.

Dele Alli got a first-half equaliser Spurs, but the north London outfit were off the pace tonight.

Mourinho has work ahead of him to get the club trending in the right direction in the Premier League table.

Marcus Rashford got United off to the perfect start after his fierce shot beat Paulo Gazzaniga at his near post just six minutes into the encounter.

The 22-year-old was inches away from getting his second after his thunderous effort was sent crashing onto the crossbar.

However, against the run of play, Dele Alli equalised after his sublime touch created space inside the area before finishing past David de Gea.

Just a minute into the second half, United were awarded a penalty after Moussa Sissoko fouled Rashford.

Having won the spot-kick, Rashford stepped up and calmly converted the penalty to restore United’s lead in front of the 73,252-strong inside the Theatre of Dreams.
