Liverpool have been drawn against Bayern Munich, while Manchester City and Spurswill also face Bundesliga opposition in Schalke and Borussia Dortmund respectively.

Jose Mourinho’s strugglers will entertain the mega-rich French side at Old Trafford before heading across the Channel for the second leg.

Manchester United vs PSG (February 12 and March 6)

Tottenham vs Borussia Dortmund (February 13 and March 5)

City, the only English team to top their group, will play the second leg at home. All of the other teams are are at home first and then away.

City and United sealed their spots in the knockout stages with a game to spare. However, defeat in their last fixture, at Valencia, meant United finished as runners-up, meaning they had to face a group winner.

No team can play against another from their own country until the quarter-final stage. The 16 teams were split into two pots, one for those who finished in first place and one for those who finished second.

That meant United, Tottenham and Liverpool were all left facing the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus. The first legs will be played in February, with the second legs in March.

Madrid, who have won the competition for three years in a row, will play Ajax. Elsewhere, Atletico Madrid take on Juventus, Barcelona go up against Lyon and last season’s semi-finalists Roma play Porto.

The final will be held in Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano on June 1.

Bayern defender Mats Hummels, who played under Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp at Dortmund, has tweeted his reaction to Bayern drawing the Reds in the last 16.

The 30-year-old posted: ‘I (eyes emoji) ?? u my former coach’ followed by a grinning emoji.

Manchester City director of football Txiki Begiristain said on the club’s social media: ‘This competition is getting hard. There are big draws and big games coming.

Teams that are struggling in their league have done very well in the Champions League. German clubs are always very dangerous.’
