World Cup Highlight: Nigeria 2-0 Iceland

The final whistle blows in Volgograd and sparks jubilant celebrations among the Nigerian squad and fans. They have (belatedly) arrived at this World Cup with a win over Iceland.

Ahmed Musa scored both of their goals in a second-half performance vastly-improved from a first period in which they didn’t even muster a shot on goal.

Iceland might have set up a fascinating finale but Gylfi Sigurdsson blasted a penalty over the bar and their chance passed them by.

The result certainly makes the situation in Group D very interesting. Nigeria move to second with three points, leaving Iceland and Argentina on one apiece.

It’s a three-way tussle for the second spot behind Croatia now on Tuesday night. Iceland will play Croatia, while Nigeria meet Argentina. It promises to be thrilling.
